PikeView junior Jason Weitzel finished in sixth place in the Class AA/A boys race during the West Virginia Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Cabell Midland High School.
The PikeView boys placed 11th as a team, with the Panthers also receiving contributions from freshman Dakota Cecil (35th, 18:20), Garett Butler (62, 19:16), Chris McBride (74, 19:45), Austin Hazelwood (86, 20:36), William Deason (88, 20:49) and Joseph Bisaha (91, 21:26).
Bridgeport won the team championship with 45 points, led by boys winner Abe Merinar, who was clocked in 16:21.
The PikeView girls finished in ninth place, led by Katelyn Odle, who was 21st in 21:47. Other Panthers included Sophie Klein (25, 21:59), Rebecca Sheets (42, 23:01), Alexis Sheets (53, 23:39), Lauren Hatfield (54, 23:43), Kaylin Kessinger (60, 24:04) and Brandy Powell (74, 26:28).
Philip Barbour won the team title, even though the Colts tied Charleston Catholic for first place with 91 points. Alicia Parsons of Grafton finished first in 19:03.
Princeton junior Taylor Hamm placed 49th as an individual in the Class AAA meet, have crossed the finish line in 21:47.
