Mercer Christian spikes Montcalm Generals

PRINCETON — Mercer Christian Academy’s volleyball team improved to 10-3 on the season with a three set win 25-12, 26-24, 25-15 over the Montcalm Generals, Monday night at the MCA gym.

Jamie Brown led the Lady Cavaliers with seven aces and four kills. Olivia Grondzik had six aces and six kills, Sami Goins had 20 digs and London Taylor had 17 digs.

Mercer Christian returns to the court tonight in Summersville against New Life Christian.



Richlands tops Grundy

RICHLANDS, Va. — The Richlands Blue Tornado spiked past the Grundy Golden Wave 25-12, 26-24, 25-15 in volleyball action Monday night.

Mac Cordill had 18 digs, eight kills, seven aces and 13 service points for the Blue Tornado, while Olivia Harmon had 23 assists. Hannah Alley had seven aces, 16 service points and four kills.

Richlands moved to 7-3 and plays at Lebanon on Wednesday.



G-Men golfers win

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Graham G-Men golfers won their final match of the regular season, defeating Mountain Empire District foes, Monday at Fincastle on the Mountain.

The G-Men won with a 157, followed by Grayson County (175), Fort Chiswell (179) and Galax (180).

Graham’s Ben Ramsey was medalist with a one-over 36. G-Men Zach Toohey and Travis Simms shot 40s and Jacob Brittan had a 41.

The G-Men return to action Thursday morning at 10 a.m. as they host the Conference 39 Tournament at Fincastle on the Mountain.



Mavs ride to

links victory

PRINCETON — James Monroe claimed victory in a five-team golf match, Monday at the Princeton Elks Club.

The Mavericks set the pace with a 126, followed by PikeView (130), Summers County (141), Bluefield (141) and Montcalm (no score).

James Monroe’s Ike Judy took medalist honors with a 36. Other Mavericks were Etahn Spencer (44), Megan Bailey (46), Eli Judy (50) and Ben Evans (50).

Ben Boggess led PikeView with a 39, followed by Carter Shrewsbury (42), Ted White (49), Abby Hamer (58) and Waylon Graham (61).

Summers County’s low scorer was Ashton Garten at 44, then came Sean Mann (45), Christian Harvey (52), David Stanley (53) and Cody Boone (62).

Bluefield got a 43 from Joel Carlos, followed by Cody Goins (48), Patrick Hutchinson (50) and Dominick Buzzo (53).

Montcalm did not have a team score but the Generals’ Tyler Poe shot a 52 and Craig Casto a 54.
