SOUTH CHARLESTON — Paul Sutphin of Bluefield picked up his 30th West Virginia State Powerlifting championship over the weekend at the 38th annual state championships held at South Charleston.
Competing in the 198-pound class, Sutphin won first place with a 1300 total, including a 462 squat lift, 320 bench press, and 518 deadlift.
He won first in the open category, the master’s category for ages 55-59 and the squat and deadlift divisions.
The state championship was sanctioned by the United States Powerlifting Federation (USPF).
The competition was Sutphin’s 18th win with the USPF.
