Cover to volley for Lady Lions

BRADSHAW — River View High School’s Abbey Cover recently signed a letter of intent to attend Concord University this fall and play volleyball for the Lady Mountain Lions.

The recently graduated Cover, who moved to Iaeger with her parents from Medina, Ohio, last summer, has her sights set on becoming a teacher after Concord.

“I want to study education and become a high school math teacher,” related the articulate Cover, adding of her plans at Concord, “and to play volleyball.”

She would like to coach the sport once she gets her degree and begins her teaching career.

Of her River View experience, Cover remarked, “It (River View) was definitely a lot smaller, and the people are a lot nicer (than her former school). I’ve had a lot of fun this year and have been more active in school that I’ve ever been before.”

Abbey has played organized volleyball since the seventh grade, including playing Junior Olympics volleyball the last four years.

Of her choice of Concord, she related, “I played (Junior Olympics) there this past season.  I really enjoyed working with the (Concord) Coach (Kate Southcott).

“She makes it fun.  She seems very focused on making her girls enjoy playing, but also learning how to play better. I enjoyed working with her.”

Cover continued, “They (Concord) have a very good education program.  I love the school itself.  I think it’s a beautiful campus.”

When the 2013 school year begins, Abbey will be able to enjoy two things she expressed her love for while talking about college: math and volleyball.

Abbey is the daughter of Chuck and Wendy Morgan Cover.
