Graham's Williams claims MED singles title

FORT CHISWELL, Va. — To go along with a 10-0 team record and the regular-season Mountain Empire District team championship, the Graham G-Girls tennis team welcomed their newest singles champion on Monday.

Caitlin Williams played for the No. 1 singles crown at the Fort Chiswell High School courts and came back from a first-set loss to defeat Rebecca Havens of Bland County 5-7, 6-0, 6-4.

Williams had taken care of business in the semifinals, turning back Alisha Bost from Grayson County 6-0, 6-3.

Williams and teammate Rebecca Day will play today at Fort Chiswell in the MED No. 1 doubles semifinals against Bost and Adanna Cheek of Grayson County. The doubles championship, against either Galax or Narrows, is scheduled for 6 p.m.

At the same location, the Graham boys duo of Conner Wilson and Otto Leung will play Jacob Kohl and Jacob Patton of Galax. Meanwhile, Ryan Keen and Chase Hankins of Bland County will take on Garrett Bailey and Mike Vaughan of Grayson County.

Regional tennis competition is set for next week.
