Lebanon’s Carter Signs With Bluefield College

LEBANON, Va. — Pioneer tennis standout Wesley Carter has signed a letter of intent to continue his career at the next level at Bluefield College.

Carter just began playing tennis at Lebanon last year. He immediately assumed the one-seed spot for the Pioneers his junior year and has continued this season. Lebanon advanced to the state level last year.

“It’s just a new chapter starting,” stated Carter. “I’m just happy I get to play tennis another four years.

“I’ve just started recently so I missed out on my first two high school years not playing on the team.

“I wanted to continue to improve at tennis and I know Coach (Mark) Sarver is a good coach, I think he will put me on the right path and help me develop my skills.”

Next season will be Sarver’s third directing the tennis program for the Rams. He will be getting a quick and athletic player in Carter, who also excelled on the basketball court for the Pioneers.

“Wesley is fairly new to tennis in the sense that he has been mainly basketball,” Sarver said. “He has a lot of upside and I’m looking to recruit as many local kids as I can. We’re just thrilled to have him come to Bluefield College.”

Bluefield College restarted tennis about six years ago. They switched to the Mid-South Conference in the NAIA last year. Last season was their first competing in the new conference.

“The Mid-South is extremely competitive,” remarked Sarver. “You have a national caliber conference in tennis.”

The Rams program is improving. They expect to field a strong team next season.

“The challenge has been to get out, find players and recruit players,” Sarver said. “Going into my third year, I think this will be by far our best guy’s team. We’ve picked up Wesley and several other good recruits.

“We should have a nice men’s team but the Mid-South will again be loaded. We’re excited about the upcoming season.”
