PikeView athletes shine at Coalfield meet

COAL CITY — The PikeView track team participated in the Coalfield Conference Championships on Tuesday at Independence High School.

Sophomore Jason Weitzel placed first in three events and second in a fourth to lead the PikeView boys to a third place finish behind Webster County and Nicholas County.

Classmate Katelyn Odle and Laura Hill placed in four events apiece to lead the PikeView girls to a fourth place finish behind Nicholas County, Webster County and Liberty.

Weitzel led all male athletes with 30 1/2 points, winning the 800 and 3,200 meters, finishing second in the 1,600 and combined with Vaughn Campbell, Chris McBride and Hunter Klein to win the 4x800 meter relay.

Odle combined with Hill, Lauryn Hatfield and Sophie Klein to win the 4x800 meter relay to remain unbeaten with a season-best time of 10:55, which should place the quartet in contention for a berth in the state meet.

Odle was second in the 3,200 meter run, third in the 800 and fourth in the 1,600. Hill, who also placed in four events, was part of the second place 4x400 relay team, third in the high jump and sixth in the 1,600 meters.

PikeView will conclude the regular season with a meet on Friday at Oak Hill.

The Region III meet will be on May 10, with the Class AA meet slated for May 17-18.

Both will be held at Laidley Field in Charleston.
