Day one of the West Virginia High School State Golf Tournament saw Princeton’s Tyler Hillyer tied for fourth place in Class AAA after the first 18 holes of action. Hillyer’s 79 tied him with Craig Buchanan of Oak Hill.
Parkersburg South’s Alex Schreckengost and Wheeling Park’s Cole Hand tied for the lead with 76 and Shady Spring’s Drew Green was two strokes off the lead with a 78.
The other Tigers in the field were Jared Porter at 85, Will Hickman at 88 and Andrew Wilson at 92.
Princeton was in sixth place, with a four-person score of 252, 15 strokes behind first place Wheeling Park.
In Class AA, James Monroe’s Ike Judy was nine strokes behind the leader with an 83. Alston Spears of Roane County sat atop the Class AA leaderboard with a 72. River View’s T.J. Stacy shot a 96.
Wyoming East’s Brett Laxton fired an 85 and teammate Logan Cook an 87. Kirby Campbell scored a 90 and Dakota Hood 94.
State tournament play concludes today with an 18-hole round at Oglebay Park in Wheeling.
