Football roundup: WIlson leads River View past Mavericks

LINDSIDE — Jordan Wilson ran for 175 yards and three touchdowns, including a 1-yard run with 4:36 left to lead River View to an 18-14 win over James Monroe on Friday night.

Greg Marshall added 58 yards on 16 carries for the Raiders, who improved to 3-1.

Reed McNeer ran for 108 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown, and Isaiah Clarkson added 64 yards and a score on 12 attempts.

River View out-gained James Monroe 259-229, with all the Raiders’ yards coming on the ground. The Mavericks had 219 of its yards on the ground.

The Raiders had 16 first downs to 13 for James Monroe.

James Monroe (1-3) will visit Chapmanville next Friday.

Auburn 42, Montcalm 27

RINER, Va. — Dakota Lanter ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, but the Generals dropped a decision to the Eagles.

Auburn is 4-0, despite entering this season having lost 39 straight games.

Montcalm also received 64 yards on 15 carries and a score from Jason Grose, while Ryan Absher added 74 yards on nine attempts.

Montcalm (1-4) also recovered three Auburn fumbles.

The Generals will visit Northwood on Friday.

CHARMCO — T.J. Smith scored on a 28-yard run with 49 seconds left in the game and the Bobcats remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 5-0 against the Cavaliers.

Summers County road the legs of Smith and Isaiah Brown to victory.

Smith has 122 yards and two touchdowns, and also caught a 28-yard scoring pass from Matt Ryan to put the Bobcats up 7-0 in the opening period.

Brown added 142 yards on the ground, and also scored on a 68-yard run to  put the Bobcats up 20-14 going into the final period.

That duo also played big on defense, with Smith having a fumble recovery and Brown intercepting a pass.

Greenbrier West tied the score at 20-20 on a Chase McClung 3-yard run with 7:22 on the clock, but Summers County survived on the late play by Smith.

Malik Boatright paced Greenbrier West (4-1) with 118 yards on the ground.

Summers County (5-0) will visit Covington on Friday.

PILGRIM’S KNOB, Va. — Austin Smith ran for 110 yards and scored two touchdowns, and Casey Dye threw for 154 yards and two more scores to lead the Tigers past the Panthers.

Randy Horton had three receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown. Casey Harman also caught a touchdown pass. Shey Bunn returned a fumble 70 yards for a score. Hayden Horn ran for two touchdowns for the Tigers.

Austin Shortridge ran for 130 yards for Twin Valley, and also scored twice.

Honaker improved to 4-0 on the season. Twin Valley dropped to 1-4.

NEW CASTLE, Va. — Trey Oliver finished with 113 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries as Hurley (2-3) defeated Craig County (2-3) on Friday night.

Teammate Nick Gibson added two TDs for Hurley.

Levi Helm completed 7 of 16 passes for 132 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions to lead Craig County.

ELLISTON, Va. — Darrell Mann rushed for 117 yards and two scores and caught a TD pass as the Mustangs earned their first win of the season by beating the Bears.

It was also the first victory for new EastMont coach Brian Lee.

Elliott Stigall completed 6-of-16 passes for 111 yards and three TDs for Eastern Montgomery (1-4).

Isaiah Boyd ran a blocked punt back 50 yards for the only TD for Bland County (0-5), which has lost 19 consecutive games.
