Brooke Baker had a goal and an assist to lead the PikeView Lady Panthers to a 2-0 win over the Oak Hill Lady Red Devils, Tuesday night at PikeView High School.
The two teams played to a scoreless first half and midway through the second 40 minutes PikeView lit up the board. Baker lifted a corner kick toward the goal and Maranda Keaton was in the right position and put it into the net for the game’s initial score with 21:47 remaining in the match.
PikeView’s lead went to 2-nil when Baker from 20 yards out boomed a penalty kick into the back of the net.
It was the Lady Panthers’ final score of the evening, but it was enough as they held on for the victory.
“I was very pleased with the second half,” said PikeView coach Sam Hill. “We were a little bit flat, a little bit lackluster in the first half, a little bit slow to the ball. We kept the ball, I thought our possession was pretty good, but we didn’t have that urgency when we had those goal scoring chances early. I thought that was the difference in the second half. I’m pleased with the second half, thought we played very well.”
Unofficially for the game PikeView out-shot Oak Hill 9-3 and had seven corner kicks to Oak Hill’s one.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improved to 6-3 and will host James Monroe on Thursday.
