Rural Retreat dashes Hurley's hopes

RURAL RETREAT, Va. — Hurley High School’s visit to the postseason was a short one.

The Rural Retreat Indians (7-4) piled up five unanswered touchdowns using all three phases of the game and claimed a 32-6 win in the first round of the Group A, West Section, Division 1 playoffs on Friday night.

The Indians’ scores included an 80-yard kickoff return, a fumble recovery in the end zone, a 48-yard pass completion and two short touchdown runs.

The Rebels tallied the game’s last score, on an 8-yard run by Dillion Bailey in the final period. Ralph Jones and Bailey each had 60 rushing yards for Hurley (6-5).

The Indians outgained the Rebels 189 to 163 yards on the ground, and passed for 121 yards compared to Hurley’s 30. Hurley lost both of its fumbles but did not have a penalty all night.
