Bluefield Daily Telegraph

BLUEFIELD — Bluefield (8-1) at Wayne (9-0): The Beavers are No. 2 in the writer’s poll and No. 4 in the SSAC ratings. The Pioneers are No. 1 in both. Could this be the first of two meetings between these rivals. Wayne 70, Bluefield 63.

Fort Chiswell (8-1) at Bland County (0-9): Fort Chiswell should enter the Division 2 playoffs next week as the top seed. The Bears have scored just 55 points all season. Fort Chiswell 45, Bland County 8.

Mount View (3-6) at Grundy (4-5): A three-point difference was all that stood between the Knights and a win against the Golden Wave last season. This one will be just as close. Grundy 30, Mount View 26.

Narrows (1-8 at Graham (6-3): The G-Men will look to rebound from a loss to Fort Chiswell, while Chandler Burton will turn his cleats for basketball sneakers for the Green Wave. Graham 36, Narrows 12.

PikeView (0-9) at Midland Trail (5-4): PikeView does not want to go into the offseason with a 17-game losing skid. Trail certainly doesn’t want to be the team that ends that streak. Midland Trail 28, PikeView 23.

Radford (3-6) at Giles (8-1): Giles trails only Bluefield in total points in the area this season, reaching 41 or more during its current seven-game win streak and 63 and 62 in their last two games. Giles 51, Radford 20.

Valley-Fayette (8-1) at Summers County (6-3): A win could secure a home playoff game for Valley. Either way the Bobcats will be in the playoffs for the first time since before 2001. Summers County 13, Valley 12.

Wyoming East (6-3) at Liberty (5-4): The Warriors will be playoff bound for the first time in five years. The Raiders have scored 21 or more points in all but one of their games. Liberty 36, Wyoming East 34.

Twin Valley (1-8 at Hurley (5-4): Small school football at ‘The Cliff’ will find the Rebels seeking playoff positioning. The Panthers have won 23 games since 2001. Hurley 46, Twin Valley 38.

Saturday Games

Tazewell (2-7) at Richlands (8-1): Richlands could wrap up its ninth straight Southwest District title, while the Bulldogs will try to dig up their third win in a row, and could be playoff bound, win or lose. Richlands 55, Tazewell 35.

Haysi (7-2) at Honaker (8-1): For 19 straight seasons, these Tigers have met for the Black Diamond District title, and they do it again tonight. Honaker needs a win to possibly secure the top seed in the Division 1 playoffs. Honaker 20, Haysi 19.

Greenbrier East (2-7) at James Monroe (2-7): Someone will finish with three wins. This game was moved from Friday because of weather issues during the week. Greenbrier East 25, James Monroe 17.

Westside at River View (5-4): These teams finished tied in the Raiders’ first season in 2010 and the Renegades won 48-40 last year. River View must win to have any hopes to a postseason berth. Westside 44, River View 36.
