Bluefield father, son take golf title

DANIELS — Bluefield’s Bob and Ben Ramsey won their first West Virginia Father-Child Championship Sunday at the Resort at Glade Springs.

The Ramseys ended the event, run by the West Virginia Golf Association, at 17-under par with a round of 64 on Saturday and a 63 on Sunday, coming from one stroke back after the first day of action.

The winning team, along with 110 other duos, suffered tough conditions throughout the weekend, with a two-hour rainstorm delay Saturday that set up the courses for even tougher conditions for Sunday’s rounds.

Each team played the resort’s Cobb and Stonehaven courses, alternating each day.

Following Saturday’s round, Rick and Cam Moore of Spen-cer led the way with past champions Kenny and Reid Frye, both teams at 9-under-par. Following the round, teams were divided into flights based on scores.

Bill and Chris Ward were runners-up, two strokes back. The Moores were next in line, finishing tied for third with Millard and Tad Tomblin. The Fryes took home top honors in the professional division with a 130 total.

Winning the first flight were defending champions Doug and Chris Williams, who shot a solid 12-under-par 132.
