DANVILLE, Va. —
The Danville Braves held the Bluefield Blue Jays to two hits and claimed a 2-1 win over the Jays, Thursday evening at Legion Field at Dan Daniel Park.
D.J. Davis and Dawel Lugo got the lone base hits for Bluefield, Davis a single, Lugo an RBI double in the second that scored Jonathan Davis with the Blue Jays’ lone run.
Bluefield pitchers Chase DeJong and Shane Dawson limited the Braves to fie hits, scattered among as many players. Danville scored in the eighth to take the win.
DeJong started on the bump for Bluefield and pitched four innings of one-run, two-hit ball and struck out four. Dawson, who took the loss, also pitched four innings. He gave up one run on three hits walked two and fanned three.
Danville’s Richie Tate pitched the eighth and ninth innings, did not allow a hit, struck out three and picked up the win.
The Blue Jays return home tonight to take on the Princeton Rays in the first game of the 2013 Mercer Cup.
