PULASKI, Va. —
The Bluefield Blue Jays snapped their five-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over the Pulaski Mariners, Saturday night at Calfee Park.
Matt Dean had a pair of hits for Bluefield, including a two-run home run and D.J. Davis and Jorge Saez had singles for the Blue Jays, who managed only four hits against Pulaski pitchers.
Bluefield took a 4-0 lead in the fourth, before scoring their final runs in the sixth. Pulaski scored its lone run in the fourth.
Toby DeMello had two of the Mariners’ six hits in the game.
Mark Biggs picked up the win for Bluefield as he worked the middle three innings in relief of starter Adonys Cardona. Brady Dragmire earned his second save of the year as he pitched the final three frames.
Each Bluefield pitcher allowed two hits. Cardona struck out five while Biggs and Dragmire each sat down three Pulaski batters via the strikeout. Dragmire gave up the only Mariners’ run.
Luiz Gohara, the 16-year-old from Brazil, started on the mound for Pulaski and was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs on two hits in five innings.
The two teams square off again tonight in Pulaski. Game time is 7 o’clock.
