Unbeaten Twins rap 21 hits at Princeton

PRINCETON — The Elizabethton Twins wanted to make sure they stayed undefeated. The Twins scored 11 runs in the first three innings, during which they got the help from five Princeton Devil Rays errors, to defeat the P-Rays Monday night at Hunnicutt Field 20-6.

Those 11 runs were scored on a combined nine hits as Starling De Los Santos, Rene Tosoni, and Rene Leveret got two hits each in their first three at-bats.

De Los Santos ended the game with a 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored. Tosoni went 3-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored. Leveret went 3-for-6 and scored three runs, and drove in two with a two-run homer to left in the ninth inning.

Princeton starter Chris Andujar was chased after 1 2/3 innings after giving up eight runs on seven hits. He threw 59 pitches, but only struck out one while walking two.

His replacement, Matt Fisher, did not fare much better. In 3 1/3 innings, he gave up six runs on seven hits and struck out just two while walking five.

The performance of Elizabethton starter David Bromberg was almost lost amid all the runs. Bromberg went five shutout innings and allowed two hits while striking out 10 P-Rays and walking two.

Elizabethton began the scoring in the first inning when De Los Santos scored on Deibinson Romero’s sacrifice fly. Tosoni scored the Twins’ second run thanks to an error by left fielder Kyeong Kang. Ozzie Lewis drove in the Twins’ third run, scored by Leveret, with a double.

Elizabethton followed that with a five-run second inning that saw all nine batters come to the plate. Tosoni drove in Matthew Lawman with a single. Romero scored Tosoni with a single. Leveret scored on a balk, and Lewis came home on a wild pitch.

The Twins added another three runs on two hits, and more importantly two Princeton errors, in the third inning. Lawman and De Los Santos scored on an error by Michael Ross and Tosoni touched home for the third time in the game because of an error by James Scholzen.
