G-Girls swat Bears

BLAND,Va. — The Graham G-Girls defeated the Bland County Bears 9-0  Wednesday evening to improve to 8-0 in Mountain Empire District play. Overall the G-Girls sport an 11-1 mark.

 The G-Girls, who will play Narrows and Grayson County today, and conclude the regular season on Friday with Abingdon, will open MED play Monday at Fort Chiswell.

Caitlyn Williams (G) def. Rebecca Havens (BC) 6-1, 6-1; Rebecca Day (G) def. Scout Williams (BC) 8-0; Haley Sheets (G) def. Tia Thompson (BC) 8-2; Misbah Muzaffer (G) def. Ashley Burton (BC) 8-0;  Mykenzie Roach (G) win by default; Nicole Gabe (G) win by default.

Boys Soccer

Rural Retreat 1, Narrows 0

NARROWS, Va. — Rural Retreat’s Steven Dufford scored the game’s lone goal in the second half. Narrows goal keeper Frankie Kantsios had 12 saves in goal.

Narrows (0-15) concludes regular season play Friday at Galax. MED tournament play begins on Monday.

 Softball

Grundy 13, Haysi 0

HAYSI, Va. — Misty Kelly had three hits, including a home run, drove in three runs and scored twice to lead the Golden Wave past the Tigers.

Kelly, who struck out five and allowed just one hit in the five inning affair, hit a two-run homer in the first inning.

Lindsey Boyd added three hits and drove in four runs. Morgan Hall, Krystal Cantrell and Shelby Yates had two hits each. Hall scored three runs and drove in three more, while Cantrell and Yates scored twice apiece.

Baseball

Virginia High 9, Honaker 1

HONAKER, Va. — Jordan Hess singled and scored the only run of the game for the Tigers in a non-district loss to visiting Virginia High.

It was the third loss of the year by Honaker and two of those defeats are by Virginia High. Honaker (15-3, 9-0) will play their final regular season game tonight when they host Haysi.
