Roundup: Lady Bears succumb to Northwood

Unbeaten Westside tops Lady Bobcats

ROCKY GAP, Va. — The latter stages of the game again were the undoing for the Bland County girls basketball team on Monday night.

The Lady Bears matched Northwood point for point in the middle two quarters, trailing 35-30 at the end of the third, but were outscored 19-10 in the final frame to take a 54-40 loss at Rocky Gap High School.

Amber Eaton paced Bland County with 11 points and Kristin Dillow sank both of the Lady Bears’ three-pointers. Alyssa Harris, averaging double-digit rebounding this season, grabbed 12 rebounds.

Bailey Hess and Kelsie Puckett led Northwood’s scoring with 15 and 10 points respectively.

Bland County plays at Galax on Thursday.

Westside 65, Summers County 32

CLEAR FORK — The Class AA No. 1 Westside Lady Renegades used a solid defensive effort to roll past No. 4 Summers County Monday to remain undefeated on the season.

Hope Lester led the scoring with 20 points, while Megan Endicott contributed a double-double for the Lady Renegades, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Faith Davis and Danielle Brown added nine points apiece and Morgan Spolarich dished out 10 assists for Westside.

Brandy Morrison led the Lady Bobcats with 12 points.

Westside (11-0) travels to PikeView tonight.

Meadow Bridge 48, Montcalm 34

MEADOW BRIDGE — Hannah Johnson scored 19 points, sinking five three-pointers to lead the Lady Generals in a losing cause Monday on the road. Leslie Kelley had eight rebounds for Montcalm and Miranda Kendrick cleared seven boards.

Chandra Harrah converted four treys and scored 18 points for Meadow Bridge. Sarah Fleshman added 11 and Alley Redden had 10.

Montcalm (3-9) travels to Fayetteville Thursday night, and will host Hannan at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Hometown Invitational Tournament (HIT).
