Tazewell girls beat Bland County to open season

ROCKY GAP, Va. — The Tazewell Lady Bulldogs got their 2013-14 prep basketball season off to a winning start with a 65-23 road win over the Bland County Lady Bears at Rocky Gap High School.

The Bears were within three at 13-10 after the first quarter, but could not score more than seven points in any of the remaining periods.

Three Lady Bulldogs reached double-figure scoring, led by Gracey Cline, who made three 3-pointers on her way to 20 points. She also grabbed four steals.

Post player Autumn Hash chipped in 13 points and 16 rebounds, and Haley Christian added 10 points and eight boards. Whitney Saunders nabbed six steals for Tazewell.

The Lady Bears got eight points each from Amber Eaton and Kristin Dillow. Both had one 3-point goal on their home floor.

The Lady Bears’ next game is Wednesday, also at Rocky Gap, against Patrick Henry – Glade Spring.

Tazewell plays next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the Virginia High Tournament in Bristol.
