Green Wave flows to opening-night win

NARROWS, Va. — The Narrows Green Wave held off Eastern Montgomery 51-47 Monday night at the Narrows gym to begin the season with a victory.

After falling behind 21-17 at halftime, the Green Wave scored 17 points in both of the final quarters to stay ahead of the visitors.

Chandler Burton had 18 points and Brandon Spangler and Austin Lively each contributed 11 for Narrows. Spangler and Burton had eight rebounds each.

J.T. Shrader made four of Eastern Montgomery’s six 3-pointers and scored 17 points. Alex Phillips added 16.

Narrows plays at Rural Retreat on Wednesday. The Friday game scheduled between Narrows and Giles has been rescheduled for Jan. 20 due to Giles playing in the state football semifinals this Saturday.

Narrows won the JV game 54-18.
