Zack Shank’s solo home run leading off the ninth inning lifted the Pulaski Mariners to a 2-1 win over the Princeton Rays Sunday at Hunnicutt Field.
It was Shank’s third hit of the game. He knocked in both Pulaski runs, and fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Princeton’s Bralin Jackson put the Rays on top when he opened the fourth inning with his second home run of the year, a solo blast to left. Pulaski tied it in the sixth on an RBI single by Shank that scored Gabrial Franca, who had earlier singled.
Princeton starting pitcher German Marquez worked five innings of scoreless, two-hit baseball and struck out seven. Darren Fischer worked two frames and gave up a run and two hits, as did Isaac Gil. Fischer struck out two, and Gil three.
Princeton pitchers did not allow a walk in the game.
Edwin Diaz pitched six innings for Pulaski, allowed one run on seven hits, and struck out five. Gabriel Soquilon worked the final three innings for the Mariners and picked up the win.
The series between the two teams continues tonight at Hunnicutt Field with first pitch at 7:05. It will be Matt Joyce bobblehead giveaway to the first 600 fans through the gates.
