Harmon tosses one-hitter in PikeView diamond gems

GARDNER — The PikeView Panthers piled up the runs in their season-opening baseball games on Friday, taking 13-3 and 13-0 wins from Fayetteville at Ritchie Field.

Jacob Harmon threw a five-inning one-hitter in the second game, using only 35 pitches. He had two strikeouts. The Pirates broke up the no-hit bid in the fourth.

The Panthers had 10 hits, including a 3 for 3 performance by Austin Cordell and Jon Clark’s 2 for 3 outing.

In the first game, which went six innnings, PikeView banged out 13 hits and scored multiple runs in four innings. Zach Meadows pitched the first four innings and took the win. Levi Nash and Ben Boggess each pitched one frame of relief.

Hunter Moses batted 4 for 4 with four RBI. He eclipsed the 100-hit mark, believed by the coaching staff to be the first PikeView player to reach that milestone. Boggess added four hits and three RBI.

PikeView (2-0) plays today at Nitro.

Richlands 7, Bulldogs 6

LEBANON, Va. — The Southwest District lives on, in an SWD baseball tournament underway at Lebanon, where a couple of old rivals took the diamond on Friday.

The Richlands Blue Tornado scored the deciding run in the top of the seventh to defeat the Tazewell Bulldogs.

Trent Davis had two hits and two RBI for Richlands (1-1) and Jay Harrison had two hits and pitched the last four innings in relief of Davis to earn the win.

Chase Illig had a pair of hits and drove in two runs for Tazewell, which tied the game 3-3 in the third and 6-6 in the sixth. Colin Hancock, the fourth Tazewell pitcher, handled the seventh inning and took the loss.

The Bulldogs, who lost 5-4 to Lebanon earlier on Friday, allowed Richlands just four hits.

Richlands plays Virginia High today.
