Prep roundup: Graham boys capture cross country meet

BLUEFIELD — Graham captured the boys half of a cross country meet held on Thursday at Bluefield City Park. The G-Men were joined by teams from Bluefield and Mount View.

Graham placed five runners in the top seven to finish with 20 points, while Bluefield was second with 38. Mount View was led by Brian Villaneuva, but the Golden Knights didn’t have enough runners to compete as a team.

Tanner Winesett paced Graham, finishing second with a time of 19:33 on the 3.1 mile trek. Bluefield’s Jordan Ponder won the overall title in 18:36.

Bluefield won the girls team title, with Graham and Mount View not having enough to qualify as teams.

Kelsey Fry (26:05) finished second overall for the Beavers. Graham’s Kristen Compton (22:43) won the overall female winner.

The JV race was won by Graham eighth grader Casey Thompson, whose time of 19:57 would have been good enough for fifth in the varsity race.

Graham will race again on Oct. 4 at Glenwood Lake where they will be joined by Princeton and Mount View.
