NARROWS, Va. — The sun shone on Narrows in at least a couple of ways on Monday.

While most of the region tried to dry out playing fields from early-day rain, the precipitation stayed away from the Narrows area — and both the softball and baseball teams took advantage with wins in tournament play.

The Narrows softball team slugged out 16 hits and allowed the Bland County Lady Bears just three on Monday to take a 5-2 victory in a first-round Mountain Empire District tournament contest.

Tiffany Perdue pitched the complete game for the Lady Wave (8-12-1), striking out four batters and walking two. On offense, she had a double and a pair of bunt singles and stole two bases.

Among Narrows’ other hitters, Megan Weatherly had two singles, a double and four RBIs. Kalyn Neal added the other RBI, and hit a triple and a single. Kacey Richardson had a double and a single, Danielle Williams doubled, and Emily Collins and Hailey Frazier each had two singles.

Narrows moves on to play Grayson County on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Mountain View Park in Indepen-dence.
