Raiders sink Mavericks

BRADSHAW — River View erased al 4-3 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the sixth last evening en route to a 7-6 win over the James Monroe Mavericks at the newly christened Mike Vallo Field.

The 11-9 Raiders manufactured four runs on two hits, a walk, a sacrifice bunt and four Mav errors in the sixth.

Freshman Tyree Baker’s double to drive home Ryan Blankenship and Dee Duff was the big hit of the game in that deciding sixth frame.

Jordan Wilson and Blankenship recorded the other two Raider safeties.

James Monroe managed only two hits, a single by Ryan Wickline and another by Micah Deskins, off winning pitcher Terry Foster.

T. J. Stacy came in to record the final two outs in the seventh, as the Mavericks scored twice, to pick up the save.

River View will open sectional tournament play Monday at Mount View’s Nick Shaffron Field at 5, facing the Golden Knights in the double elimination playoff.  Game two is scheduled for Tuesday and a third game, if necessary, will be played Wednesday.

James Monroe will play the winner of Monday’s Bluefield-PikeView sectional opener at Bowen Field on Tuesday.  That three team, double elimination tourney will continue daily until the champ is crowned.
