Beavers shut out Knights at Bowen

BLUEFIELD — Monday started for Justin Mariotti with a signing ceremony at Bluefield High to play golf in college. The day drew to a close at Bowen Field, where he drove in four runs for the Beavers in a 6-0 shutout of the Mount View Golden Knights.

Trevor Mullins went the distance on the mound for Bluefield (7-15), striking out six batters and allowing four hits. At bat he was 2 for 3 with the game’s only extra-base hit, a double. Marcus Santoro and Justin Lightfoot each had hits for the Beavers.

For Mount View (4-12), Chris Muncy and Aaron Whittaker were 1 for 3. The Golden Knights’ pitcher, Bryan Villanueva, and Jarrett Cochran each had a hit as well.

All the scoring took place in two innings — Bluefield’s four-run second, followed by two runs in the next frame.

Bluefield plays today at 4 p.m. at Graham and will celebrate senior night on Thursday as the Beavers host River View. Mount View plays at Liberty Raleigh on Wednesday and is scheduled to end the regular season on Friday at Chapmanville.
