MONTGOMERY — Kari Simon scored both the goals in the second half on Sunday as Concord University women’s soccer earned its first win of the season with a 2-0 shutout of WVU-Tech.

Concord (1-1-0) is now 8-0 all-time in women’s soccer matches with the Golden Bears, who have never scored on the Mountain Lion women.

Freshman goalie Kristin Twomey made the first start of her Concord career, stopping two shots on her way to the clean-sheet victory.

Junior back Abby Barber, who scored two goals in CU’s season-opening loss at Converse, assisted on Simon’s second goal and tallied four shots. Concord took 17 shots and led in corner kicks 3-1. Freshman forward Emily Cole took a game-high five shots.

“The girls played well in the second half,” Concord head coach Stefani Workman said. “We played much better possession soccer to create goal-scoring opportunities. Abby played two great balls into Kari and she finished her chances with class.”

Concord plays Wednesday at King University and plays its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 15 against West Virginia Wesleyan in what will be the Mountain Lions’ first Moun-tain East Conference contest.
