Prep roundup: Wickline tosses perfect game for Mavericks

LINDSIDE — Mikayla Wickline worked a three-inning no-hitter, leading James Monroe to a 10-0 softball win over Narrows on Thursday afternoon.

Wickline struck out seven and walked just two for the Mavericks.

Laine Shifflet homered and drove in two runs for James Monroe. Hillary Hersman had three hits, including a triple and two RBIs. Morgan Ballard also had two singles for the Mavericks.

James Monroe travels today to Liberty.

Narrows 3, Montcalm 1

NARROWS, Va. — Courtland Caldwell pitched six innings of two-hit baseball, and Kelly Dent drove in a pair of runs, leading Narrows to a win over Montcalm.

Narrows scored two runs in the third to snap a 1-1 tie. Caldwell singled to lead of the inning and scored on a triple by Rodney Perdue. He would score on a ground ball out by Dent.

Montcalm (4-4) collected two of its three hits in the third, with Aaron Presley doubling in Seth Roberts, who had reached with a single.

Narrows scored in the opening inning when Will Patteson singled, stole two bases and came home on a single by Dent.

Caldwell replaced an injured Tyler Evans in the second and proceeded to strike out nine and allow just two hits.

Aaron Presley surrendered just seven hits, but was saddled with the loss.

Narrows (4-1-1) will visit Bland County today, while the Generals visit Greenbrier West.
