Princeton girls claim victory in quad match

PRINCETON — The Princeton Tigers volleyball team swept to victory in a quad match Thursday night at PSHS.

In the opening match Princeton beat Teays Valley 22-25, 25-23, 25-13.

Taylor Hamm had 13 digs, Adrianna Mitchem 14 service points, six aces and 22 assists, Alex Campbell seven service points with four aces and Kaleigh Barker added 14 kills, nine digs, five service points and an ace.

In the 25-17, 25-15 victory over Charleston Catholic Hamm had 12 digs, Mitchem 10 assists, Kelsi Browning six points and two aces, and Barker had 14 kills, two blcks, 14 srvice points and eight aces.

In their final match of the night against Riverside the Tigers won 25-19, 25-15.

Hamm collected 12 digs, Mitchem had nine points with two aces and 13 assists, Barker had six kills, five points and an ace, while McKenzi Barnett had six bills, four points and two aces.

Princeton is now 21-13-3 and celebrates Senior Night on Tuesday in a tri-match with Greater Beckley Christian and Greenbrier East.

Shady Spring 0

BECKLEY — The PikeView Panthers concluded regular season play with a 3-0 win over Shady Spring at the YMCA Soccer Complex in Beckley.

Seth Wood had two goals and an assist for the Panthers. Brandon Calfee also added a goal while Gene Weatherly and Paydon Cutlip provided assists.

PikeView finishes the season 15-4-1 and won nine of their final 10 matches during which they allowed one goal. The Panthers open sectional tournament play Monday night at the East River Soccer Complex against Mingo Central at 5 p.m.

Cross Country

Bland’s Otey wins

NEW CASTLE, Va. — Bland County senior Zach Otey captured the boys title at a cross country meet hosted by Craig County on Wednesday at Fenwick Mines Recreation Area.

Otey, who placed 11th in a meet at Eastern Montgomery last week, also led the Bears to the team title, with freshman Jason Cross finishing second and Christian Boyd placing fourth. Jonah Miller and David Harman finished out the scoring positions for the bears.

Anant Patel ran a career best for the Bears.

The Conference 45 meet will be held on Oct. 30 in Shawsville.

Bland County will be joined by Narrows, Auburn, Bath County, Covington, Craig County, Eastern Montgomery and Radford

The top three teams will advance to the Region 1A-West Section slated for Nov. 6 in Bristol.
