PikeView soccer teams beat Irish

HUNTINGTON — After trading goals through the second half on Saturday, the PikeView Panthers girls soccer team hung on to defeat St. Joseph Central 2-1 at the Kennedy YMCA Complex in Huntington.

Lexie O’Dell scored both goals for PikeView (11-5-1), with Shyann Carr providing the assist on both. Lindsay Bates scored for St. Joseph (7-9-1) in between the Panthers’ goals.

PikeView goalkeeper Kristen Brinkley made six saves, and St. Joseph’s Rachel Lee recorded eight saves in goal.

Sam Hill, PikeView’s coach, said, “The biggest thing was the quality of the play. We struggled a little Thursday down at James Monroe and didn’t get the result we wanted.”

“To come back, on the road, and to play with the quality of play that we did today, was really encouraging as we go into our final regular-season game and the postseason.”

PikeView, ranked 10th in the current Class AA-A state soccer rankings, will play at Shady Spring on Thursday in their final match of the regular season.
