Prep roundup: Weitzel wins at Coalfield meet

PINEVILLE — PikeView cross country runner Jason Weitzel took first place in the Coalfield Conference boys cross country meet, Tuesday at Twin Falls State Park. Weitzel finished with a time of 17:19.98. The Panthers’ Dakota Cecil finished 11th with a time of 19:26.93.

For the girls, the Panthers’ Katelyn Odle finished second with a time of 22:21.82. Lauryn Hatfield was fifth (23:33.18), Sophie Klein sixth (23:45.39), Kaylan Kessinger ninth (24:20.78) and Alexis Sheets 11th (25:44.96).

The regional meet will be held on Thursday.

Boys soccer

PikeView 4, Greenbrier East 0

FAIRLEA — The Panthers got two goals from Seth Wood and one each from Vaughn Campbell and Beau Smith on the road Tuesday in Greenbrier County. Hunter Klein, Alec White and Brandon Calfee had assists for PikeView (12-3-1), and Austin Cordell had eight saves in goal.

PikeView, currently ranked sixth in Class AA-A, plays Thursday at Charleston Catholic, the five-time defending champions in boys soccer and the No. 2 team in the state.


Princeton 3, Oak Hill 0

PRINCETON — The Princeton Tigers swept a match from the Oak Hill Red Devils, Tuesday evening at Princeton Senior High School 25-10, 25-19, 25-19.

Kaleigh Barker had 13 kills and 29 digs, McKenzi Barnett added 11 kills,  nine points and an ace, Adrianna Mitchem finished with 28 assists, six digs and four kills and Alex Campbell tallied 10 digs, nine points and two aces.

Princeton plays Thursday at Woodrow Wilson against the host Flying Eagles, Greenbrier East and Oak Hill.

Princeton won the JV game 25-9, 25-20.

Kristen Walker had six kills, seven points and an ace, Leah Whitaker added six kills, four points and two aces; and Tori Satterfield contributed 11 assists, 10 points and had five aces.

The JV team’s record is now 5-7.

Narrows tops PikeView

NARROWS, Va. — The Narrows Green Wave improved to 8-5 on the year with a 25-21, 25-15, 25-18 win over PikeView, Tuesday at the NHS gymnasium.

Shana Davis had 23 assists, Tiffany Perdue 15 kills and four aces, and Tiffany Kast six kills and five aces for the Green Wave.

Narrows returns to the court tonight at Christiansburg.

Ballard Christian 3, Victory 0

BEAVER — The Eagles of Ballard Christian School denied a victory to Victory Tuesday with a road win against the Victory Christian Saints. Ballard (12-2) swept the evening 25-19, 25-18, 26-24.

Ivy Hughes had seven kills for the Eagles, while Sarah McMahan had two aces and Chelsey Prunesti and Gracyn Lankford each had one kill.

Ballard Christian plays Thursday at Mountain Mission.
