PikeView boys foil Spartans

GARDNER — The PikeView Panthers (9-3-1) outshot the Class AAA Greenbrier East Spartans 17 to 4 and held them scoreless until the final minutes en route to a 4-1 soccer win on Monday evening.

Hunter Klein and Vaughn Campbell each found the net to produce a 2-0 halftime lead. Klein and Gene Weatherly provided the Panthers’ other goals, and Stefan Narr-Madariaga had the late goal for the Spartans. Isaac Van Blaricom had two assists for PikeView.

“We played good possession in the first half,” said PikeView head coach Bill Hopkins. “They’re playing very well.”

Austin Cordell had three saves and Beau Smith recorded one save for the victors. Greenbrier East’s Mac Brackenrich had eight saves.

PikeView has its senior night this evening, with the ceremony between the boys and girls matches with Bluefield. The boys’ encounter starts at 5 p.m.

The Panthers host Sissonville on Thursday, in what Hopkins called “a big game for us.”
