Softball: Generals close down the Knights

MONTCALM — Hannah Johnson scattered eight hits and collected two hits of her own, and the Montcalm Generals defeated Mount View 12-7 at Tina Casey Field on Tuesday evening.

Alexis Mabe added two hits for Montcalm, which finished with nine hits.

Mount View, which led 7-5 after three innings, had eight hits, including two from Ashley Belfiore and Paige Short.

Montcalm, which scored six runs in the fourth and four in the second, will host Greenbrier West on Thursday,

Princeton 8, Bluefield 0

PRINCETON — Kendra Kline had a triple and double, and Brooke Hensley allowed just four hits and struck out three, leading the Tigers past the Beavers in 4 1/2 innings.

Meredith Putorek also had two hits for the Tigers, and served as the catch for Hensley.

Alexis Burress, Briana Edwards, Caitlyn Lucado and Brenna Johnson had hits for the Beavers.

Princeton (2-11), which won its second game in a row, will visit George Washington today.

Abingdon 9, Richlands 2

ABINGDON, Va. — Logan Viers surrendered two hits and had three of her own, leading the Falcons to a Southwest District softball win over the Blue Tornado.

Katie Richardson, who took the loss in the circle, had one hits for Richlands. The other hit for the Lady Blues came from Briana Lowe.

Richlands (3-6) will visit Tazewell on Thursday.

Grundy 10,

Twin Springs 1

GRUNDY, Va. — Misty Kelly struck out nine and gave up three hits in a complete-game win, and drove in three runs on a 2-for-3 day as Grundy stayed perfect on the year.

Krystal Cantrell batted 3 for 4 with an RBI. Morgan Hall had three RBIs as well, going 1 for 4. Shelby Yates was 2 for 3 with a double. Kelly, Hall and Lexie Elswick also had doubles.

Hillman was 2 for 3 for Twin Springs.

Grundy (5-0) plays Thursday at River View.
