Carroll bites Bulldogs, Hatfield paces Lady Panthers

HILLSVILLE, Va. — Chris Smoot canned four 3s and finished with 16 points, and Carroll County continued its dominance of the Southwest District with a 77-54 SWD semifinal win over the Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

Carroll County (22-1) will play Abingdon for the SWD tourney title on Friday. Tazewell (8-15) will face Marion in the SWD consolation game on the same evening.

Tazewell was led by Juwan Jordan with 13 poins, while Isaac Santana added 12 and Tanner Catron tossed in 11.

Bulldogs’ leading scorers Noah Walker and Jalen Jordan did not score. No report was received on whether they played in the game.

The Cavaliers led 29-11 at the first quarter and 43-24 at the break. Carroll County made eight 3s in the game to four by the Bulldogs.

Wyoming East 85, Independence 42

NEW RICHMOND — Brett Bowling led a trio of Wyoming East Warriors in double-digit scoring with 21 points past the Independence Patriots. Cody Lester tallied 13 and Austin Canada dropped in 11 for the Warriors, now 13-6.

Shane Greco was high scorer for Independence with 10.

Wyoming East plays next on Friday at Oak Hill.

GARDNER — Lyndsay Hatfield scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to help lead the PikeView Lady Panthers past the Shady Spring Tigers.

Other Panthers scoring in double digits included Hope Nester with 16 and Courtney White with 13. White also pulled down 11 rebounds.

PikeView is now 10-10 on the season and will host James Monroe tonight for Senior Night, which will be observed between the girls game which starts at 6 o’clock and the boys game which begins at 8 p.m.

HINTON — The defending Class AA state champion Westside Renegades got 35 points from Hope Lester to defeat Summers County. In addition to Lester, Danielle Brown added 15, Faith Davis 13 and Morgan Spolarich 11.

Avery Pivont led the Lady Bobcats with 19.

Summers County travels to Scott, Saturday.
