Maroon Tide washes over Bears; PikeView falls in buzzer-beater

BLAND,Va. — Carolyn Vaughan scored 21 points and Susan Davis added 11 to lead Galax to a 49-36 Mountain Empire District victory over Bland County on Wednesday night.

Bland County (3-17, 1-8) was paced by Amber Eaton with 12 points, while Danielle Russo canned eight.

Galax was 11 for 12 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Bland County will close out the regular season on Friday at Fort Chiswell.

Wyoming East 46, PikeView 45

NEW RICHMOND — Bre Pertee took the in-bounds pass and drove the length of the floor nailing a short jumper with less than two seconds remaining to lift the Wyoming East Lady Warriors past PikeView Wednesday.

Hannah Ford led the Lady Warriors with 14 points and Chelsea Duncan added 13 points.

Chiara Jewell pulled down 10 rebounds and Hailey Lowman grabbed nine rebounds for the Lady Warriors.

Lyndsay Hatfield led the Lady Panthers with 15 points and Madison May added 14 points.

Wyoming East (12-7) travels to James Monroe Friday. PikeView (8-9) travels to Summers County Friday.

HINTON — Avery Pivont and Aubrey Holley scored 10 points each to outscore the Cavaliers by themselves, helping the Bobcats snap a rare three-game losing skid.

Haley Shrewsbury and Abby Taylor added eight points apiece for the Bobcats. Tyra Wynes contributed seven points, seven steals and five assists.

Greenbrier West was paced by Kristen Harris with 10 points.

Summers County (12-5) will host PikeView on Friday.

PEARISBURG, Va. — Jada Penn scored 14 points and Megan Mitchell added 12 to lead the Bobcats past the Spartans.

Giles (3-15, 1-7) was led by Karli Beechler with 16 points. The Spartans, who will visit Eastern Montgomery tonight, was held scoreless in the second quarter.

VAN — Phyllis Waldron scored 11 points, snagged 12 rebounds, dished out five assists and had five steals to lead the River View Lady Raiders past the Van Lady Bulldogs.

Kiersten Dority added 10 points for River View, while Chelsey Dobbs had 17 rebounds and six assists and Santana Kennedy had nine boards.

River View (4-12) hosts Hurley tonight and it will be Senior Night in Bradshaw.
