PIPESTEM — There was motivation for the Pipestem Christian Academy Panthers basketball team on Monday evening.

It was not only their final home game of the regular season, against their friendly rivals from Ballard Christian School, but it was also a chance to keep a monumental streak alive — eight complete seasons without a regular-season loss at home.

They accomplished that goal going away, with a 70-49 win over the Eagles.

“The last time we lost at home was 2005,” said Kevin Worley, longtime coach of Pipestem Christian (15-2).

Austin Peyton provided half of the Panthers’ scoring, nailing four three-pointers to finish with 35 points. Aleks Lane chipped in 18 points and Zayne Worley had 15.

Ballard Christian (10-6) got 18 points from Josh Deskins and 14 from Ray Spencer.

Pipestem Christian plays its final regular season game of the season on Friday at Calvary Baptist Academy in Hurricane. Worley said his team’s seniors will be honored at an alumni game on Feb. 19.
