Coalson, Compton lead PikeView past Grizzlies

CHAPMANVILLE — Savanna Coalson got the PikeView softball team started with a three-run double in the first inning on Friday and the Panthers took a 6-2 win from Nicholas County in the Chapmanville Invitational Tournament in Logan County.

Haleigh Compton, PikeView’s pitcher, struck out 10 Grizzlies. Whitney Robinson of Nicholas County struck out eight batters.

The Grizzlies closed the gap to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the third, but the Panthers put the game away with another three-run burst in the sixth.

At bat for PikeView, Lyndsay Hatfield was 1 for 2, walked twice and scored a run. Compton was 1 for 4 and also scored, and Samantha Meadows batted 1 for 3 and scored twice.

Both teams are scheduled to face new opponents in today’s final day of the tournament.
