Kirk tosses no-hitter for G-Men

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Logan Kirk didn’t allow a hit in securing a no-hitter, and the junior also had two hits and three runs batted in, leading Graham to a 10-0 non-district five-inning win over Rural Retreat on Wednesday evening at Graham Middle School.

Kirk struck out five, walked none and was a Graham error away from a perfect game.

Tommy Lovell led Graham with three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Spencer Sheets scored two runs for the G-Men, which scored five runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Graham (2-1) will host Giles on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Bluefield falls twice at beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Bluefield Beavers have dropped a pair of games to New York teams in the Mingo Bay Classic.

Bluefield lost to Brocksburg, N.Y. 5-1 on Tuesday, and fell 10-0 on Wednesday to Hamburg, N.Y.

The Beavers (2-4) will play Dreher, S.C. today at 2:30 p.m.

No other information was available.

No report has been received on games involving Princeton and PikeView.

PEARISBURG, Va. — Mark McIntyre's single with the bases load scored Lucas Stevers in the bottom of the seventh to give Giles the win.

Stevers finished the day 2 for 3 with a double, a solo home run and three RBIs. Drew Skewes drove in two runs on a single to give Giles (2-4-1) a 6-4 lead.

Ryan Page led James Monroe with a pair of hits and an RBI.

Tyler Perdue struck out six over 2 2/3 innings for the win in relief of Hunter Epperley. Epperley struck out six and allowed two runs on two hits over 4 1/3 innings. Reed McNeer struck out six and allowed five runs over six innings in the loss.



Montcalm 19,

Hurley 6

MONTCALM — John Casto and Josh Clower collected two hits apiece to lead the Generals to their first win of the season in a five-inning decision over the Rebels.

Clower relieved Stephen Whittaker in the third and struck out five to pick up the win.

Montcalm scored six runs in the first and third innings, and added seven in the fifth.

The Generals visit Twin Valley today.

Greenbrier West 25, Bluefield 19

CHARMCO — The Greenbrier West Cavaliers outslugged the Bluefield Lady Beavers, Wednesday evening in softball action.

Caitlyn Lucado led Bluefield in hitting with two singles and two doubles, and was also the losing pitcher for the Lady Beavers, fanning six Lady Cavaliers.

Bluefield took a 6-5 lead in the first and then regained the lead in the fifth. Greenbrier West put rallies together in the fifth and sixth inning to gain the win.

Bluefield (0-3) plays next on Monday, hosting Summers County.



Boys Soccer

Giles 8, Narrows 0

NARROWS, Va. — One night after playing an overtime thriller with Tazewell, the injury-riddled Green Wave dropped a decision to their Giles County rivals.

Narrows (0-4) will play Giles on Tuesday and Auburn the following night.

BLUEFIELD — Graham improved to 3-0 on the season by defeating the Blue Tornado at the Bluefield City Courts.

Top seeded Caitlin Williams won her singles match in an 8-1 decision over Paxton Casey, and Williams also combined with Rebecca Day to win a doubles match.

Graham will visit Giles on Friday, and will visit defending Group A champion Gate City on Monday.
