Aaron Rose struck out 11 batters in five innings Tuesday as the Bland County Bears got in their second game of the year, defeating Montcalm 10-5 at Coopers Field near Bramwell.
Rose was 3 for 5 at bat, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Tyler Faukner was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Zac Gwyn drove in a run and finished 2 for 4.
Tyler Poe was 1 for 2 and Aaron Presley was 1 for 3 with an RBI for Montcalm (3-3).
Bland County (2-0) plays its first Mountain Empire District game of the season at Grayson County today at 5 p.m. Montcalm is at Meadow Bridge this afternoon.

PILGRIM’S KNOB, Va. — Chris Hardin struck out 16 batters in six innings as Hurley blew past Council Tuesday in Black Diamond District action.
Greg Stacy scored three runs and doubled on a 2-for-4 evening for the Rebels. Billy Stacy had a triple and scored twice. Hardin allowed two walks and one earned run.
Council starter Devin Duty induced 17 strikeouts in six stanzas, but took the loss, giving up four hits, three walks and three earned runs. Larry Robinson had one hit and stole three bases for the Cobras.

NARROWS, Va. — Narrows scored four runs in each of the first two innings Tuesday and defeated the Indians in a six-inning game called due to darkness.
Will Patteson and Kelly Dent were each 2 for 3 with a double for Narrows (3-1-1). Tyler Evans hit a two-run home run.
For Rural Retreat, Jackie Burton was 2 for 4 with a double and W.K. Dalton was 2 for 4. Dalton, the Indians’ starting pitcher, gave up six runs and took the loss.
Narrows used five pitchers who combined to strke out 12 batters. The Green Wave hosts Montcalm Thursday at 4 p.m.

SHADY SPRING — Kevin Cottle allowed four hits and struck out seven in a complete game effort, and Jon Clark provided two hits and two runs batted in to lead the Panthers past the Tigers.
Carter Shrewsbury had hit and two RBIs for PikeView, while Jordan Hardin had a hit and RBI.
PikeView (7-5), which is 7-1 against West Virginia schools after finishing 0-4 at the Mingo Bay Classic last week, will host James Monroe on Friday.

LINDSIDE — Bailee Jackson and Brooke Prunesti combined to allow to just one, leading the Mavericks past the Beavers.
Jackson worked three innings, striking out five and walking two. Prunesti earned the save, pitching the final four frames, surrending one hit, an unearned run, three strikeouts and three walks.
Haileah Pickles had three of James Monroe’s six hits and scored three runs.
Briana Edwards had the lone hit for the Beavers.
Richlands 6, Galax 0
RICHLANDS, Va. — The Lady Blues got three goals from Cassidy Richardson, two from Nadia Ashiq and one from Mackenley Davis in a shutout of the Maroon Wave on Tuesday at Ernie Hicks Stadium.
Giles 14, Graham 5
BLUEFIELD, Va. — Giles scored 10 runs in the top of the sixth inning to defeat Graham on Monday in a game halted by darkness at Graham Middle School.
McKinley Webb took the loss for Graham, while Giles was led on the mound by Tyler Perdue.
Giles had 14 hits, while Graham collected nine. Both teams finished with three errors apice.
Graham will visit Galax on Friday to open Mountain Empire District play.
Grundy 11, Hurley 0
GRUNDY, Va. — The Golden Wave limited the Rebels to one hit on Monday. Grundy’s Nick Travis was 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs.
Corey Walsh was 2-for-2, with a double a triple and one RBI. Taylor Cole drove in two runs and Charles McCoy added a triple for the Golden Wave.
Greg Stacy had the only hit for the Rebels, and took the pitching loss.
Dylan Billiter worked the first four innings to get the win. Freshman Dylan Wolford pitched the fifth.

Bluefield sweeps Princeton
BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield High boys and girls tennis teams defeated county rival Princeton Tuesday at Bluefield City Courts. The girls took a 6-1 win while the boys prevailed 5-2. Both Bluefield teams are 4-0 this season.
Bluefield plays again at Bluefield City Courts today against Liberty and Friday against Westside. Next week the Bluefield teams play a match every day.

TAZEWELL, Va. — The Bears squeezed a victory from Tazewell Tuesday at Lincolnshire Park. Bland County’s Ryan Keen won 8-1 at No. 1 singles; Tazewell got an 8-0 effort from Tyler Stillwell.
The two teams play again today at Bland High School.

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Top seed Conner Wilson led the G-Men to six victories in singles, as the G-Men defeated the Blue Tornado at the Bluefield College courts.
Graham improved to 5-0 on the season, and will host Tazewell next Monday at the same venue.
