Elizabethton unleashes big hit attack against Princeton Rays

PRINCETON — A quintet of Elizabethton pitchers tossed a three-hitter and Twins batters exploded for 16 hits as the Elizabethton Twins beat the Princeton Rays 13-1, Monday night at Hunnicutt Field.

Elizabethton put five runs on the board in the second and never looked back. The big hit a three run homer by Rory Jimenez. The Twins used another three run knock in the sixth to extend their lead. D.J. Hicks powered one out of the park, a three run shot.

Max Kepler had three hits for the Twins, as did Jimenez. Rory Rhodes, Hicks and Adam Walker each had a pair of hits. Hicks finished the night with five RBIs.

Angel Mata started on the mound for Elizabethton and gave way to Joshua Burris, who got the win, in the fourth. Steven E

Evans and Kaleb Merck also pitched for the Twins.

Julian Morillo, John Alexander and Ariel Soriano accounted for Princeton’s three hits.

Jacob Faria, the Rays starter, suffered the pitching defeat. Joan Guerrero and Randy Davis also worked for Princeton.

The two teams conclude their three game series tonight at Hunnicutt Field, first pitch slated for 7:00.
