BSC men's tennis tops Atlantic Region preseason poll

SKILLMAN, N.J. — The men’s tennis program at Bluefield State College produced several top-50 placements in the 2012 Campbell/ITA Division II Preseason Rankings, released late last week.

After bringing a NCAA Division II Atlantic Region title to Bluefield last spring and having a strong fall season, the Big Blues have been voted as the No. 36 team in the country and No. 1 in the Atlantic Region for the second consecutive year.

After an impressive fall season, Vishwesh Sinha was chosen as the 37th ranked NCAA Division II singles player in the nation and No. 1 in the region.

Sinha won the ITA Atlantic Regional Singles Championship and finished seventh in the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships this fall. He concluded the fall with a 7-3 overall record.

Jacob Carey and Pitor Kruk won the ITA Atlantic Regional Doubles Championship and finished fifth in the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships to earn a 16th national ranking and No. 1 doubles ranking in the Atlantic region.

The duo wrapped up the fall portion of the schedule with a 9-3 overall record.

Three Big Blues — Sinha, Carey and Vlad Catlan — took the top three spots in the Atlantic Region singles poll. Shikar Kapur, Kruk and Conner Pickering were ranked 8th, 10th and 11th respectively.

Joining Carey and Kruk on the regional doubles poll were the duo of Sinha and Kapur who are ranked second in the region and Nik Sparr and Catlan who earned a No. 4 ranking.

Last spring, Bluefield State tennis coach Louis Belt was named coach of the year by both the Wilson/ITA Division II Atlantic Region and the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
