Yates earned top region, district awards

BLUEFIELD — Recent Graham graduate Forrest Yates has been chosen as the Region C Player of the Year, going along with having been the Mountain Empire District Co-Player of the Year, sharing the honors with Grayson County’s  Adam Wyatt. Yates, who will next play at Bluefield College, finished as the all-time leading scorer for Graham boys soccer, scoring 101 goals. Yates was joined on the Region C boys soccer first team by fellow G-Men Samuel Stowers. Jake Ballard of Narrows was a second team honoree.

Region IV boys soccer, first team: Logan Forrest (Richlands), John  Stanton (Richlands); second team: Zach Franklin (Richlands), Tanner Catron (Tazewell).

Region IV baseball, first team: C—Chase Illig (Tazewell), 3B—Chase Ray (Richlands); second team: OF—Michael Horton (Richlands); HM—Brett Powers (Tazewell).

Region C baseball, second team: P—Will Patteson (Narrows).

Region IV girls soccer, first team: Cassidy Richardson (Richlands), MaKenley Davis (Richlands); second team: Taylor Catron (Tazewell), Hannah Hearl (Richlands).

Region IV softball, first team: IF—Bri Sparks (Tazewell); second team: IF—Whitney Saunders (Tazewell), DP—Savanna Barber (Richlands).
