PULASKI, Va. —
The Bluefield Blue Jays got behind in their first road game of 2013 on Sunday in Pulaski and never caught up, taking a 10-5 loss at Calfee Park in front of a crowd announced as 2,016 fans.
Derrick Loveless hit two home runs, both solo shots, for Bluefield (2-2) and ended his day 4 for 5 at the plate. John Silviano was 2 for 3 with a solo home run in the seventh.
Dawel Lugo was 3 for 4 and Jorge Saez was 3 for 5 at the plate. Lugo and Silviano hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the eighth to complete the scoring in the contest.
Pulaski used six singles to score five runs in the first inning off Bluefield starter Adonys Cardona. Brett Barber took over in the second inning, and Mark Biggs and Adaric Kelly also got two-plus innings of relief work for the Blue Jays.
The two teams combined for 30 hits. The top batters for Pulaski were Isaiah Yates, who was 4 for 5 with three runs batted in, and catcher Toby DeMello, 2 for 3 with another three RBIs. Ian Miller was 3 for 5 and scored three times.
The Mariners (1-3) took their first win of the season. Starter Ramire Clato took the victory, going six innings and allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out four batters.
The three-game series continues tonight at Calfee Park with first pitch set for 7 p.m.
