At winning time, the seniors make big plays.
Bluefield’s senior starters collaborated to help the Beavers rally from a late fourth-quarter deficit and beat Scott 76-64 in the Skyhawks’ nest on Monday night.
Bluefield led 51-39 in the late third period before the Skyhawks’ Kirk Price and Cody Brown hit back-to-back threes to key an 8-0 Scott run and trim Bluefield’s lead to 53-49 with one period left to go.
Scott sustained its comeback early in the fourth quarter, and when Price hit back-to-back jumpers midway through the period, the Skyhawks led 59-57.
After a Beaver timeout, D.J. Edwards intercepted a pass and turned it into a three-point play, giving Bluefield a 60-59 lead, and the Beavers would never trail thereafter.
The Bluefield defense forced three Scott turnovers in the final 37 seconds and Anthony Eades scored six points off those errors.
Snapping Scott’s five-game winning streak, Bluefield was paced by Eades with 24. Edwards added 17 and Lykel Collier contributed 11, along with his solid floor leadership.
Logan Webb had 12 points to pace a balanced Scott attack, as three teammates joined him in double figures.
The Beavers, 14-2 and winners of seven in a row, entertain Oak Hill Wednesday at the Brushfork Armory.
