Roundup: Bluefield girls win at Lindside

Narrows wins two in conference playoffs

LINDSIDE — The Bluefield Beavers got untracked in the second and third quarters to take a 54-49 win in girls basketball action at James Monroe High School on Monday night.

James Monroe led 14-11 after eight minutes of play, and the teams were tied 26-26 at halftime, but Bluefield outscored their hosts 15 to 10 in the third quarter and prevailed in a game that had no successful 3-point goals.

Ten Beavers scored in the contest, led by 11 points from Jesslyn Fullerton.

Sisters Carter and Laine Shiflet scored 30 of James Monroe’s 49 points, recording 16 and 14 points respectively. Rebecca Sparks added 10.

Bluefield (8-7) plays again today at Greenbrier East.

Honaker 59, Twin Valley 57

COUNCIL, Va. — Laken Robinette controlled the boards late and helped Honaker hold off the Panthers to win the first ever Crooked Road Conference regular-season title.

The win gives the TIgers the top seed and a bye into the semifinals of this week’s conference tournament, and an automatic berth in next week’s regional playoffs.

With 26 seconds remaining, Honaker led 58-57. Robinette was fouled as she pulled down a defensive rebound and hit one free throw for the final margin. She had seven rebounds in the fourth period alone.

Robinette finished with 14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for Honaker, and Tara Deel scored 13 points.

Twin Valley’s Kara Goodman and freshman Alexis Vance each had 17 points.
