Prep roundup: Bluefield girls stop Tolsia, Richlands cans 15 3s

HUNTINGTON — Dazia Edwards scored 12 points and Jessica Hayden added 10, leading Bluefield to a 56-36 win over Tolsia on Saturday.

Bluefield (6-5), which will visit James Monroe on Tuesday, also received nine points from Destiney Sims and seven by Tara Jackson. Hayden had three 3s for the Beavers.



Richlands 67,      Twin Valley 59

PILGRIM’S KNOB, Va. — Brittany Allen and Montana Hearl combined for more than half of the Lady Blues’ points in Saturday’s road win.

Allen scored 25 points and Hearl had 11 for Richlands.

Twin Valley’s Kara Goodman achieved a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She made three of the 11 three-point goals scored by the two teams.

Twin Valley (9-5) plays Monday at home against Mountain Mission.

The Lady Blues visit Graham on the same night.

Essence Brown led Bluefield with nine points, while Deja Taxley, Jessica Hayden and Dazia Edwards had seven points apiece.

DELBARTON — A short-handed band of Lady Knights (8-3) fell to the Miners (8-7), who made 17 of 20 free throws and placed three girls in double-figure scoring.

PILGRIM’S KNOB, Va. — Luke Phillips scored 18 points and connected on four of Richlands’ amazing 15 3s during the Blue Tornado’s win over the Panthers.

Scotty Ball added 16 points, while Grant Herndon had 13. Ben Brown contributed a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards, and Ethan Ratliff did the same, with 11 points and 11 assists.

Brown, Herndon and Ratliff had three 3s apiece.

Twin Valley was paced by Brandon McGlothlin and Shannon Adams with 15 points apiece. Thomas Burniston added 11.

Richlands (7-9) will visit Graham on Monday and host Abingdon on Tuesday.

BECKLEY — Westside captured the Class AA Big Atlantic championship by defeating archrival Wyoming East.

Corey Bowles and Justin Cogar scored 16 points each for the Renegades, which defeated Bluefield earlier in the week to advance to the finals.

Westside (9-2) also received 11 points from Justin Kenneda.

Wyoming East (9-2) was led by Logan Blankenship with 18 points, 15 from Austin Canada and 12 by Christian Hedinger.
