G-Girls beat Galax; Hill scores 1,000th for G-Men

GALAX, Va. — Lexi Kiser scored 24 points to lead the Graham G-Girls to a 54-39 win at Galax on Friday night.

Kiser grabbed eight re-bounds and three steals and made all three of the G-Girls’ 3-point shots. Dejah Carter added 10 points and seven rebounds, and Gia Coppola notched 11 points for Graham (9-6), which led 36-19 at halftime.

Carleigh Pack had nine points to pace the Maroon Tide.

Graham is scheduled to host Giles on Monday, weather permitting.

GALAX, Va. — Colby Hill got his 1,000th point for the Graham varsity, but the Maroon Tide got the win, going ahead in the final minute to edge the G-Men.

Entering the game needing nine points to reach the scoring plateau, Hill, a junior, scored 17 to lead Graham (10-5). Roman Workman contributed 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Nick Morgan added 10 points.

Darian Brown led Galax with 11 points, with six of those coming in the final quarter when the Maroon Tide outscored Graham 22-10.

The G-Men went 20 of 35 from the free throw line in the game, while Galax was 6 of 11.

Graham plays at Giles on Monday in a makeup game.

COAL CITY — The Warriors roared to a 55-14 halftime lead and sailed the rest of the way, getting scoring from 13 players on Friday night.

Austin Canada scored 17 points in the first half for Wyoming East (8-1) and finished with 20.

The teams combined for 18 treys, with Chris Mills sinking five to lead Independence (0-11) with 17 points.

The Warriors play Mount View on Tuesday night in Beckley at Big Atlantic Classic tournament.
