BLUEFIELD — Indoor soccer is coming to Bluefield. The Southern West Virginia King’s Warriors, in conjunction with Bluefield College and United States Youth Futsal, is starting an indoor soccer league for boys, girls, men and women of all ages.

The King’s Warriors started play several years ago. Based at the Countryside Baptist Church in Forest Hill, Summers County, the soccer group is part of the church’s Nehemiah Project.

“It is a ministry outreach, specifically in soccer and we’re trying to share the Gospel of Christ and his love,” said Jonathan Windle, one of the futsal programleaders.

The group has spring and fall leagues and in the summer it has a team in the Premier Development League. Futsal, as indoor soccer is known, is now taking shape in the winter months.

“We have started the West Virginia King’s Warriors Futsal League and trying to reach out to the community in that manner,” Windle said. “We will play at Bluefield College, the Wade Center and tehre may be some games played at the Countryside Baptist Church in Forest Hill, W.Va.”

Asked how the league came to Bluefield, Windle said it was a mutual effort between a student at Bluefield College and the King’s Warriors that made it a reality.

“We’ve been wanting to go to the Bluefield area for a while,” Windle said. “Through this student and Bluefield College, that’s how we got started in the Bluefield area and then we learned of the Wade Center and expanded there.”

Windle was not sure and could not release at the current time how many players have signed up. The league is open from those in kindergarten through adults in age-specific teams.

Games are scheduled to begin Saturday, Jan. 25 and continue through March 8. Those wishing to play should sign up on the group’s website at www.wvkingswarriors.org. Cost is $35 per player. Those wishing to play this weekend need to register by Friday. Players can still sign up after that time, but must first sign up on the website.
