Danville Braves shoot by Blue Jays

DANVILLE, Va. — The Danville Braves strung together 13 hits and Bluefield managed four against starter Andry Ubiera and none against two relievers as the Braves took an 8-1 victory Saturday night at Dan Daniel Park.

Austin Davis was 2 for 2 at bat for Bluefield. Jesus Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI scoring Dan Jansen in the second inning to tie the game 1-1. It was all Danville (7-3) after that.

Francisco Rios went five innings for Bluefield (4-6) and allowed four runs, just one of them earned, and six hits. Matt Smoral followed with 2 1/3 innings, surrendering another six hits and four earned runs while walking four Braves and striking out five.

Michael Flores and Felix Marte each pitched two innings for Danville and struck out five batters collectively.

The Braves' Mike Dodig went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI.

The two teams meet again at 4 p.m. today in Danville.
