Hot Flashes take to the court again

BLUEFIELD — The Hot Flashes, a team comprised of some of the greatest female high school basketball players in McDowell County history, will play Saturday (June 14) at 6 p.m. at the Bluefield Recreation Center, on Stadium Drive. The opponent will be Kimball Elementary School’s boys varsity team.

Admission is $5, with proceeds going to Open Heart Ministries of Bluefield, a Christian-based, non-profit community alliance dedicated to assisting temporarily homerless people, irrespective of age, color, race, or religious affiliation.

The Hot Flashes are women who starred at Mount View, Northfork, Big Creek and Welch high schools during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The team is seeking middle-school-aged opponents from McDowell and Mercer counties. The team has facility in which to play, but is willing to play on the opponents’ home court.

The Hot Flashes won the first two games they’ve played.
